Specializing in Effective Restoration Services

If you have had a full mouth reconstruction, it is important that you take proper care of your new smile at home. With proper care, you will be able to enjoy your new smile for a lifetime. Byrd Adkins DDS - Smile Company specializes in safe, effective restoration and reconstruction of damaged or missing teeth.

Home Care for Full Mouth Restoration

A full mouth restoration and reconstruction are intensive processes, and your teeth will need time to heal. You will also need some time to simply get used to the look and feel of your new smile and bite. To help, we’ve assembled these guidelines of what to expect and how to care for your new smile.

What to Expect With Full Mouth Reconstruction

After you return home from your procedure, you may experience the following symptoms:

Hot and Cold Sensitivity: Your teeth are healing and will be sensitive to temperature for some time.

Gum Soreness: This is also normal. To relieve it, you can rinse three times a day with a warm salt water rinse (one teaspoon of salt in one cup of warm water). Taking ibuprofen or acetaminophen every three to four hours may also help.

Speech Difficulty:
Over the first few days, your speech may sound different. You will quickly adapt, however, and soon be speaking normally.

Increased Salivation:
Because your brain is adjusting to the new shape and size of your teeth, you may notice increased salivation. This should diminish in approximately a week.

How to Take Care of Your New Smile

Caring for your new smile according to the following guidelines will promote healing and adjustment after full mouth restoration or reconstruction:

Clean Your Teeth: Brush and floss daily, since removing plaque is essential for the long-term success of your new teeth. You should also make regular cleaning appointments.

Avoid Damaging Foods: Foods that can damage, chip, or crack natural teeth can do the same to your full mouth restoration. Try to avoid foods such as peanut brittle and beer nuts. You should also not chew on ice, your fingernails, pencils, or other hard objects.

Avoid Staining Foods: Coffee, red wine, tea, and berries can all stain your teeth, as does smoking. Minimize these foods and quit using tobacco to keep your teeth white. We offer teeth whitening should you need to brighten up your smile.

Wear a Mouthguard: Whether you grind your teeth at night or play sports, let us know. We can create a custom mouthguard that will keep your teeth protected.
